Young event rider heads to 5 year old Championships

Will Rawlin a talented up and coming event rider has signed up to Elite Horse Owners ahead of his debut at the KBIS British Eventing Young Horse Championships held at Osberton International Horse Trials next week.

23 year old Will Rawlin and his exceptional 5 year old Ballycoog Breaker Boy (William) have had a very successful 2017 season to date. The exciting 17h gelding who is by Womanizer has been growing in confidence throughout the season and in June the combination fulfilled their goal of qualifying for the championships in the 5 year old class at Nunney International.

The stats show that Ballycoog Breaker Boy is one of the most consistent 5 year olds qualified for the KBIS championships where tomorrow’s champions are unveiled. Ballycoog Breaker Boy has had 7 runs this season, he has never incurred a xc fault, has recorded the lowest dressage score of a 5yr old qualified for the championships and has only had one pole down all season in the show-jumping. The duo have been in the top 3, in 5 of their 7 events this season and in the top 10 in all but one, this is a pair that are currently flying under the radar but this could change with a good result at Osberton.

The Young Horse Championships have gone from strength to strength and numerous notable ‘Osberton graduates’ have achieved success, including British squad representatives Billy The Biz and Ceylor LAN (Rio 2016), and Billy The Red, Bulana and Allstar B (gold medal winners, Strzegom 2017). Ireland’s Rio contestants Cooley Rorkes Drift and Jemilla are also Osberton graduates.

4* Australian rider Chris Burton works with Will and Ballycoog Breaker Boy and he has commented “Will not only has a natural talent for our sport, but he also has the hard work ethic and dedication that it takes to make it in the sport of eventing.”

Elite Horse Owners will now act on Will’s behalf to secure sponsorship and source owners to take him and his team of horses through to the 2018/2019 eventing season. The talented Ballycoog Breaker Boy will be syndicated this autumn to allow Will the opportunity to continue the ride and develop this horse further, through to the 6 and 7 year old Championships over the next 2 years.

Karen Carson, Director of Elite Horse Owners thinks that Will has the talent to go all the way. “Will is a charming young man, who is not afraid of hard work; he has all of the traits that we look for when starting a supported rider relationship: a strong work ethic, drive and determination, talent and willingness to work with brands that he will be an ambassador for. We are very excited about the 5 year old championship and where this partnership will go next season. Anyone who becomes part of Team Rawlin will enjoy a great eventing experience with a dedicated athlete where representing your country at the Olympics runs in the family with father Andy having represented Team GB in cross-country skiing”

“This is a really pivotal point in my career, I’m at the stage where to progress I needed to enlist the services of an organisation who could work with me and give me that helping hand into the commercial world of eventing. We all know equestrian sport is expensive and to continue to progress my team of exciting horses, I needed to build a team of professionals around me. Elite Horse Owners gives me the infrastructure to build syndicates so that I can continue to campaign the horses and build long term working relationships with sponsors and owners.” Will Rawlin
