Mollie Summerland has been crowned winner of the Calver Wealth Management 2* League with her own Charly van ter Heiden.
The pair accumulated a total of 62 BE points to take the crown ahead of Sam Ecroyd and The Quiet Man in second and Rosalind Canter and Michele Saul’s No Excuse in third.
Twenty-year-old Mollie from Surrey took a convincing lead in the 2* league – which is open to eight and nine year old horses who have never competed at three or four star level – with an 18 point advantage over the rest of the pack. A win at Nunney International CIC2* in June set Mollie and the eight-year-old gelding up with a strong foundation which they built on with a fourth place at Barbury International CIC2*, second at South of England CIC2* and fifth place at the Osberton International CCI2* to finish their season.
Sam Ecroyd and his own eight-year-old gelding The Quiet Man earnt their 44 point total with a second place in the CCI2* National under 21 Championships at Houghton International in May and win in the Barbury International CIC2* in early July.
Completing the top three, 2017 European team gold medallist Rosalind Canter, won a total of 40 points on Michele Saul’s eight-year-old gelding No Excuse after a win at Belton Park International CIC2* at the start of the season followed up with a fourth place in the Houghton International CCI2*.
Jo Calver, Calver Wealth Management Specialist, commented; “It has been fantastic to support the Calver Wealth Management 2* League for the second year running. We feel the 2* League plays an important role in supporting young horses and British riders to progress up the rankings giving them the foundations for future success. We have been working closely with many of the riders and owners within the 2* League to help with their financial planning needs. Riders are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of having a financial plan in place to support them whilst they are eventing, but also to have a plan in place to support them once they decide to hang up their boots. We would like to thank all of those riders and owners who competed in this year’s league. We look forward to sponsoring the Calver Wealth Management 2* league again in 2018.”
