Worldwide’ Sarah Carless reviews the Ariat V Sport Tall Zip Boot

Everybody is in search of a stylish riding boot which also offers top performance and doesn’t cost the earth. But for many years I have struggled. Until now.

Being 5’3ft, in the past I have found it very hard to find exactly what I am looking for in ‘off the peg’ IMG_1304riding boots because they are usually far too tall for my short legs. My made to measure boots which I have had for a number of years were practical – they fitted and did the job. But they lacked the elegance that I was looking for.

When I was asked by Eventing Worldwide to review Ariat’s V Sport Tall Zip Boots I was sceptical that I would find a pair that would fit. But I was very wrong. These boots come in a range of sizes, so even for somebody of my height and leg length it was easy to find a pair that met my requirements. The boots are available in short, regular and tall measurements and variety of widths so a majority of people will be able to find a pair which fit like a glove.

So before I go any further, let’s get into the details of V Sport Tall Zip Boots. These elegant boots are made from a premium full-grain leather upper and feature an oiled leather inner calf panel for lower leg grip and security. Utilising Ariat’s ATS technology for superior comfort and foot support, the boots are made with an overlasted construction for durability. There are many practical features such as the full length elasticised panel on the lateral side, elastic gusset on inside knee, full length premium coiled back zip system with keeper and a Duratread outsole. It is these features which make them a high quality riding boot.

After measuring my leg – the instructions on how to do this are fantastic, or you can ask your retailer to help – I reckoned a size 5 in a short wide fit would be about right. And when they arrived, they certainly disappoint. Not only did they fit, but for the first time I felt like I had a pair of boots which were specifically made for me. They far exceeded the fit of my made to measure boots. It was a revelation. The elasticated panel allows for a little give but these boots zipped up perfectly first time. The measurements advise you allow for droppage in the boot due to usage. But even putting them on for the first time I didn’t feel them digging into my legs or that I would need to wear them in to get the perfect fit.

The V Sport Tall Boot has also been designed with style in mind – with a high Spanish cut topline for an elegant appearance and a plain toe cap – but without compromising on performance. And with these boots I feel these boots do make my legs appear longer. That’s quite a feat. Where my previous boots had dropped and didn’t have any real style features, the V Sport Tall Boot offers that little bit more panache which make them look very special.

So how did I find them when I was riding? I’ve been wearing these boots for dressage and they have IMG_1555been fantastic. They are comfortable beyond what I could have asked for in a tall boot. Even on the hottest of days, my feet have been kept cool thanks to the moisture wicking sock liner. And I’m sure that even on the coldest of days in the winter months my feet will be kept warm without the need for extra socks which most riders use to make sure their toes don’t turn into mini ice blocks.

One of the biggest benefits I found is the keeper fastening which goes over the zip. On most boots I have previously purchase this goes backwards and I find this can often pop open. On these boots it goes forward, which means this is no longer a problem and I don’t have to worry about boot issues whilst I am riding.

These boots have been fantastic – I certainly give them 5 stars. For anybody who is looking for a premium riding boot I cannot recommend Ariat’s V Sport Tall Boot more highly. You’ll feel a million dollars wearing them and have the highest levels of comfort at the same time.
