Van Tuyl heads ESNZ Super League Series

The Puhinui International Three-day Event marked the halfway stage in the year-long ESNZ eventing Super League Series.

The Honda NZ CCI3* class attracted a select bunch of elite horses and riders who were vying for points in the Eventing Super League. Going into the event, Katharine Van Tuyl and Double J Sunshine were in second place after winning at Taupo in October and being runner-up at the National Eventing Championships at Takapau. But her second place IN THE cc13* moved her to the head of the standings. Van Tuyl and the relatively inexperienced but promising eight year old gelding won the 2* class at Puhinui last year, and stepped up to 3* level this spring with great consistency.

High Performance squad member Clarke Johnstone now lies in second place after he took Balmoral Sensation to the Australian International Three-day Event where they placed third and subsequently did not contest Balmoral Sensation.

Winner of the Puhinui International CCI3* class Virginia Thompson and Star Nouveau occupy third place in the standings.

The big events of the autumn season in the series are the CIC3* at the Farmlands Horse of the Year Show in March, the CIC3* at Kihikihi in April, and the NRM CCI3* at Taupo in May.
