The US has made a last minute change to their eventing line up, whilst one of Italy’s top event riders has been ruled out through injury.
The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) has made a substitution to its Olympic Eventing Team Traveling Reserve. Maya Black has withdrawn Dawn and Jonathan Dofelmier’s Doesn’t Play Fair due to veterinary concerns. The gelding is expected to make a full recovery and Black looks forward to a return in the 2017 season. Lynn Symansky and The Donner Syndicate, LLC’s Donner, will now travel to Rio as the reserve.
Meanwhile, Italy’s Vittoria Panizzon announced that her Olympic hope Borough Pennyz would not be available for Olympic selection following an injury the mare incurred at Barbury International Horse Trials. Vittoria was also ruled out of competition following a fall, resulting in a broken collarbone at Upton House.
A disappointed Vittoria said on her Facebook page: “I cannot deny I longed to make Rio since I first heard of it, and missing representing ones country at the Olympics at this near stage is one of the toughest mishaps. Devastated for my whole team and sponsors and especially for Pennyz, a medalist in my eyes and a very special friend.”
