Top class line up for British Open at the British Festival of Eventing
A top class line up of international riders will be descending on Gatcombe Park for the CIC*** British Open Championships at The Festival of British Eventing presented by the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA).
Names to watch out for include Great Britain senior European Championship team members William Fox-Pitt, Pippa Funnell, Gemma Tattersall, Izzy Taylor, Oliver Townend, Nicola Wilson and reigning British National Champion Francis Whittington.
William Fox Pitt has three horses entered including his European Championship ride Bay My Hero and former winners of the Intermediate Championship Fernhill Pimms, who is one of William’s reserve rides for Blair, as well as last year’s Intermediate Champion Luxury FH.
New Zealander Andrew Nicholson has five horses entered including Avebury, who recently won his fourth title at Barbury International Horse Trials, and triumphed in the British Open 12 months ago.
Former winner of the British Open competition Mark Todd will be having another tilt at the title on NZB Campion, whilst another former winner Jonathan Paget has four rides entered.
Australia’s challenge is headed up by two former Badminton Horse Trials winners Paul Tapner and Sam Griffiths whilst Andrew Hoy will be trying to regain the title he won back in 1997.
Other big names to watch out for include Louise Harwood, third here last year, Jonelle Price and Eventing Worldwide blogger Emily King.
Competition for the CIC*** BOC starts with the dressage on Saturday 8th August with the show jumping and cross country taking place on Sunday 9th August.
