It’s been a super exciting past few months for me. It’s great to be back home for Christmas after spending the past two months up in Stansted, working for Ben Maher as his second rider. I had the most incredible time and learnt a huge amount.

I was lucky enough to take a horse of my own this year – I took Lord Patrick Beresford’s Charlie… which was fantastic as it meant I could receive lots of specialised training on him which he benefitted from considerably.

So, I worked for Ben as his second rider, which consisted of me getting up early to help with the feeding, mucking out and general yard jobs etc… I would then work all of his horses and then have training on them and also on Charlie in return.

I jumped my first ever 1.50m course at home which was super exciting… I was turned into a proper show jumper!! I was lucky enough to go out to CHI Geneva to watch and help Ben and also to Olympia, which was a super exiting show as he took Diva, Wings Sublime and Cloud Nine – Wings and Cloud were two of the horses that I worked at home, so it was really exciting and rewarding to see them perform so impressively. Diva and Ben won the Grand Prix and Ben also claimed the H&M’s Leading Rider Award… so it was a fantastic week and rounded off my stay perfectly.

Riding the beautiful Cloud Nine at Ben Maher's

I am so grateful to Ben and his amazing team for having me, they improved my jump riding considerably and I can’t wait for my horses to come back into work so I can put what I’ve learnt into practice!

Charlie enjoying being home

Now, I’ve got a lovely quiet 10 days at home enjoying the festive period with family and friends, followed by a ski trip with a bunch of my really good riding mates which will see me into the New Year.  Anna Wilks has kindly invited us all out… so that should be great fun! Then all of the horses come back into work in early Jan which I just can’t wait for… and then it all starts up again!

I’ve got two exciting new rides for the coming season – Drago, a beautiful chestnut 6 year old, who has been produced by Vicky Tuffs has been kindly bought for me by Parone Cjaval and Loxley, a 10 year old 2* chestnut gelding who is coming all the way from Australia has been purchase by Zara Porterhill for me to campaign next year. Gill Jonas’ Del Piero will unfortunately be resting next year due to a slight injury. So my 2015 team will be: Brookleigh, Walitze F Vejgard, Charlemagne, Loxley, Drago and King Joey (one of our homebred 4 year olds).

My lovely new 6 year old, Drago has settled in really well

Next year will be my first year of being a ‘Young Rider’, so one of my big aims is to get on the Young Rider European Team. I am also aiming for the Bramham CCI***U25 Championships and also to compete at my first CCI****, either at Luhmuhlen or Pau.

I am seriously excited for the season ahead, a big thanks to all of my amazing owners (Parone Cjaval, Lord Patrick Beresford, Gill Jonas & Zara Porterhill) and fantastic sponsors (Joules, Ariat, Animo, Mitsubishi, Hiho, New Equine Wear, Equipe, Verdon Grey & Rodney Powell), I have a super exciting team of horses to campaign next year.

Everything crossed for a successful and rememberable 2015!

Em x
