The Gillespie Macandrew Hopetoun International Horse Trials 20

World leader comes to Hopetoun

GILLESPIE Macandrew Hopetoun Horse Trials offers an opportunity to see some of the world’s top event riders competing in a fabulous setting on the banks of the Forth.

Sir Mark Todd, recognized as the leading event rider of all time is making his first trip to Hopetoun at the end of the month (June 26-28)

He has represented New Zealand in a total of five Olympic Games, winning five medals including two Gold. He has also won Badminton four-times and Burghley five times.

Another former Olympian in the line up is Nicola Wilson, a member of the UK London 2012 silver-medal winning team. She was the winner of Hopetoun’s prestigious 3* competition last year with her Olympic partner Oppostion Buzz.

Onlookers can’t fail to be excited by watching these top riders tackling the challenging cross-country jumps at speed around the Deer Park at Hopetoun.

But the weekend is not all about horses! There is an action-packed programme of arena entertainment and a plenty of canine capers for the family to enjoy.

Last year’s Doggy detail has been extended to include a Fun Dog Show on both Saturday and Sunday. So if the dog is your favourite four-legged friend, why not line up for the waggiest tail or maybe the cutest face class.

If your really want to put your pooch through its paces it’s the Have-a-Go agility for you. Watch the experts in action and then show them how it’s done! Close by the Flyball team will be showing off their skills. But if it is racing that excites turn your attention to the main arena where the Ridgeside Lurchers will be a feature of the afternoon’s entertainment.

And there is yet more fun to come when the tape is raised on the Shetland Grand National on Saturday. These hairy short-legged sprinters are sure to raise a Canal Turn- style cheer as they speed around the Main Arena on the West Lawn. At least one re-run along with Mounted Games and a Parade of Hounds promises to entertain the crowds.

And teddy came too
Baxterbear’s presence at the Teddy Bear’s picnic makes us all wish we were Under 12! This irresistible character will be part of the packed programme for the kiddies, which includes a visit from magician Tricky Ricky, and Mr Puffin, the balloon man. The dedicated Children’s Zone has its own giant slide and bouncy castle so it’s sure to be buzzing with activity all weekend.

For those in need of a little retail therapy head for the shopping villages for a fine display of fashion and country clothing as well as designer accessories. If you have shopped and you’re ready to drop then visit our caterers for a tasty variety of refreshments.

Tom Murray, Chairman of Gillespie Macandrew, title sponsors for the fifth consecutive year, commented: “Hopetoun offers an unrivalled venue for an event that really has something for everyone. For equestrian enthusiasts there can be no better location for watching competitors going through their paces, while the breadth of other activities ensures the whole family will have great day out. We are delighted to continue our support of one of the very best equestrian experiences in the country.”
