2015 is here and the start of the season is literally 7 weeks away, but it’s snowing outside! Less than ideal but a good time to make plans and get blogging! So, plenty to catch up on.

I had a relatively successful 2014 with Eds Or Tails, my stunning 6yo finishing his season jumping his first novice SO easily he’s left me so excited for whats to come! He is very nice on the flat, his first novice test was a tough one, counter canter, rein back, top end novice moves and he stepped up, floating round with a 29. He’s typically Irish in his jumping, extremely brave and goes off any stride, he had a couple down SJ just green mistakes but stormed the XC, the bigger they got the better he jumped, what more could I ask for? I’d love to get him qualified for Tattersalls CCI1* this summer, an event I’ve heard a lot about and can’t wait to experience for myself.  Ed belongs to my parents and as my sister finished Uni this year, she was home and bored, so he had to be shared. Safe to say there were numerous arguments over his agenda for the year.  She has since headed off to Australia so I’m looking forward to really getting him going and seeing what he can do! Watch this space!

Another horse who really stepped up to the mark last year was HDI Harlequin, he is a horse I initially struggled with due to him being so big (17.2hh) and opinionated, but thanks to Hayden and Dee Hankey who have been brilliant in getting us working together he is coming along excitingly well! He had his last run of the year at Weston Park International in the CCI1* where he did a smart dressage test (but by no means his best) in the pouring rain which scored him a brilliant 47! The XC had been revamped and rerouted and was a true test with the hills and terrain, I felt like I didn’t take my foot off the pedal the whole way. We came home 3 seconds under the optimum time which was good enough to go into 2nd just 0.6pts behind Mary King’s ex Olympic ride Imperial Cavalier with Yasmin Ingham on board who also rode a fantastic SJ round to win the class! Unfortunately a clear round SJ wasn’t on the cards for us but we still finished 8th in a big strong section, a result that at the start of the season didn’t even cross my mind!

Arkendale had a quiet season and a lot of down time but is raring to go for 2015 jumping like he’s 4yo again! It’s the nicest feeling when your horse of a lifetime is feeling so well, he’s 16 this year but you seriously wouldn’t think it.  All being well I’d love to jump the under 25’s 3* again at Bramham and maybe fulfil both our dreams of jumping a 4*, but we will see how things go.

So with planning in full swing and the young horses coming back into work between the ice and snow it’s all go! Just before Christmas I headed over to Ireland to the sales and came back with a lovely 3yo grey mare (4yo this year) with Cruising and Cavalier Royale bloodlines, so I’m looking forward to producing her and maybe aiming her for some BYEH classes and Young Horse Championships. Arkendale’s full brother Galphrays Pride is also 3yo this year; they are two peas in a pod, scarily alike! I can’t wait to break him in the spring and see what he can do! It’s going to be a good year!

Before I sign off I’d just like to thank everyone for your support, it’s invaluable to me and I couldn’t do any of this without you, especially my Mum, Dad and Nan, chief drivers & grooms! Haydn Davies and Skye Ashmore of HDI for sticking by me owning & supporting some of the most exciting horses we have and have had, seriously appreciated! And of course Hayden and Dee Hankey for putting up with me and making me the best I can be! And thank you Louise and Eventing Worldwide for asking me to blog – it’s an honour!

I am also really really excited to announce ForagePlus will be supporting the team this year by making sure my horses are receiving every vitamin and mineral needed to have the power and ability to perform at the top of their game! Forage analysis is GO! Please check out their website and like them on Facebook/twitter to see what they could do for you‪ #BalanceMinerals‬ ‪#‎TopOfMyGame‬ #2015
