Sweden has finalised the riders who will participate in the eventing competition at the Rio Olympics.
Eventing coach Staffan Lidbeck had already confirmed three members of the team – Sara Algotsson Ostholt, Frida Andersén and Ludwig Svennerstål. However, the decision regarding the final rider was delayed until after competition at Aachen last weeken, with three riders – Niklas Lindbäck, Linda Algotsson and Anna Nilsson in contention.
Following the event, Lidbeck named Anna Nilsson and Luron as the selected combination for the team. The reserve was named as Linda Algotsson with either Fairnando or Fairnet.
Following the announcement he said: “I have nominated Anna Nilsson with Luron as the fourth rider in the Olympic team. She has made stable performance during the season. Certainly the horse is older in years but Anna and Luron were involved in getting the Swedish team qualified for the Olympics at the European Championships in Blair Castle, and she took a fine tenth place in the German Luhmühlen, a contest with three-star difficulty earlier this season.”
