Sweden announces European eventing team

Sweden has announced the names of the six event riders who will form its team for the European Championships at Strzegom in August.

Four riders rider in the team and two start individually. The team will consist of Sara Algotsson Ostholt (Reality 39), Louise Svensson Jähde (Waikiki or Weloch’s Utah Sun), Ludwig Svennerstål (Paramount Importance) and Anna Freskgård (Box Qutie). Niklas Lindbäck (Focus Filiocus) and Malin Josefsson (Allan V) will ride as individuals.

Two riders have been named as reserves: Hanna Berg (Quite Survivor) and Linda Algotsson (Fairnet).

Sweden’s Eventing Manager Fredrik Bergendorff’s has based his squad on established riders supplemented with younger riders who have performed well at international competitions.

“The goal of course is of course a team medal and it is absolutely possible if the riders who have been chosen will start,” says Fredrik Bergendorff.

However, there are several aspects that are important in the context of the European Championships.

“One goal is that we should learn how to work as a team and understand what happens when we put pressure on each other in connection with a championship,” says Fredrik. “In addition, it is also a great opportunity for the less experienced riders to gain championship experience.

In the run-up to the European Championships, the team will gather to an intentional meeting where they can come together and form a plan on how they can best cooperate and support each other, and also establish what each rider wants and needs to make as good a performance as possible.
