Prize money doubled at Blenheim

The CCI*** class at the SsangYong Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials will becoming the most valuable of its level in Europe with the annoucement that the prize money for this year’s event has been doubled.

The first prize in the CCI*** will be £16,000 with a the total prize-fund of more than £50,000. Prize money in the CIC*** has also increased with the winner recieving £5,000 with a total prize-fund of more than £15,000. The winners of these two classes will also have the use of a SsangYong Tivoli for a year.

The Oxfordshire horse trials is Britain’s premier three-star event, and the increase in prize-money is a reflection of that status.

Event Director Mandy Hervieu said: “Improving the prize-money we offer to riders and owners is something that we have wanted to do for some time.  Now, as a result of investment in the event by our new title sponsor SsangYong Motors, coupled with further support from the Event Rider Masters (ERM) series, which holds its final at the event, and British Eventing, we are in a position to be able to increase the prize-money for both the CCI3* and CIC3* substantially, effectively doubling the prize-pot. This is great news for riders and owners as the prize-money improvement goes right down the line.”

The event is also leading the way for amateur riders  with even more grassroots riders than ever before competing at Blenheim in the Dodson & Horrell-sponsored Eventer Challenge classes.

All six Dodson & Horrell Eventer Challenges are now full, and in some cases balloting has taken place. Evans Jumps Ltd, who build the three-star cross country courses, are preparing new fences for all the amateur classes this year, so the tracks will have a totally fresh look and feel.

Sam Horrell, CEO of Dodson & Horrell, said: “The Eventer Challenge at the SsangYong Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials is one of the highlights of our sponsorship portfolio and is a real family occasion for the Horrells, as most of us attend. We are proud to be able to give riders the opportunity to compete at this prestigious event, which seems to get bigger and better each year.  The team spirit of the competitors is great to see and it is such a fun competition for us to be involved with.  We look forward to welcoming everyone in September and the winning teams will definitely be worthy winners in such a hotly contested competition.
