Bragg on top form at Pontispool

Sarah Carless reports….

Bridgewater-based rider Alexander Bragg has continued his run of recent good form picking up two wins at Pontispool.

Alexander, who is sponsored by Pontispool Equine Sports Centre, picked up a brace of wins with Eventing Worldwide’s The Night Traveller and The Ladies Club’s Bloomfield Tiger Two.

With The Night Traveller Alex led from the off being first to go in BE100 Open Section I. His score of 23 in the dressage could not be beaten and the classy gelding showed his form with a double clear in the jumping phases. It is the combination’s second win of the year following up their victory at Homme House. The horse’s good form continued to the next weekend where the combination picked up a fourth placed in a competitve Novice section.

Alexander’s second win came off the back of the weekend’s lowest dressage score – 14 in a very competitive section – onboard the five year old grey gelding Bloomfield Two Tiger. The following weekend, the pairing collected second place in another BE100 competition cementing their progress.

Alex said: “I was pleased with both horses at Pontispool. Tiger is only five and has been a bit tricky but he has really clicked in to his job recently with some fantastic results at his last two events. And Hugo (The Night Traveller) is a rosette winning machine. He had a month off through injury in the middle of the year but he has come back strong winning at Homme House, coming fifth at a very competitive West Willts and then winning at Pontispool. He’s just an amazing horse to ride. Tiger will finish the season at BE100s and Hugo will now go on to do the one star at Aldon.”

Alex says being able to access the facilities at Pontipool through his sponsorship really helps with the horses training, adding: “Having use of the facilities at Pontispool helps us enormously – it’s a great place with everything we need. If we have a competition coming up we can pop over and tune the horses up. I have three horses going to the one star at Aldon and we’ll bring them all over beforehand to make sure they on top form.”

Pontispool hosted two BE90 Regional finals for the Mitsubishi Motors Cup Championship, giving combinations the chance to book their place at the final being held at Badminton next May. Jodie Crosby and Summer Night City were the winners in BE 90 Section E whilst Tabitha Pring and Prim and Proper III were einners in BE90 Section F.

Harriet Foale and Magic Legend picked up their second win of the year – having previously won at Launceston in BE90 Section D. Other combinations to pick up another win during the 2015 season were William Fox-Pitt and Little Fire (Novice Section P) and winners of the 1* at Bicton Arena in August Dani Evans and Mastonpark Lupina (Intermediate Novice Section Q). Tom Jackson and Dowlada continued their good form for their third win of the year in Intermediate Section L.

Another local rider having a successful year was Jo May with RBF Masquerade – winners in Novice Section O – a fourth victory for the combination in 2015.
