Our lucky EWW subscriber, young eventer, Boffie Brown, met with the team and celebrated designer Jade Holland Cooper at Burghley yesterday. Her task was to select a cape as her prize in the inaugural EWW subscriber competition.
With the Holland Cooper trade stand already in full swing it was great to see Jade doing what she does so well, interacting with her clients and ensuring the very best customer service. The joy of Holland Cooper is that they can offer more of a personalised service and attention to detail which is very apparent in their new AW15 pieces. The new fabric this season is soft taupe herringbone tweed, offset with café au lait leather and gorgeously soft fur. Made up into the HC classic capes it is easy to see why these garments are key items in the collection. After trying one on the fashion editor could see why… with shaped sleeves and just the perfect length, plus a flexible collar that could be worn high or low, they really are the perfect autumnal garment for country sports, spectating, or for town.
A new departure to the styles are the biker influenced gillets and jackets. Working with gold zips, soft tan suede, tweed and fur, these really are so on trend and a great look for those wishing to update their wardrobe with a slightly more edgy, yet wearable look. Teamed with jeans and boots or some tailored leather or tweed these pieces can work from day into evening and have a really unique edge which sets them aside from other labels.
Talking to Jade we asked if the materials, which are so beguiling, inspire her collections, or the shapes themselves. She explained that it’s a two-way process. So, for example, with the biker collection her starting point was the ubiquitous biker look and her newly sourced zips. From this starting point she developed shapes that accentuated the materials to their best.
The HC accessories collection is developing rapidly featuring cartridge bags in sumptuous leathers and bold colours (see our fashion edit for the Ed’s pic – in bold orange), hats – including classic trilbies and bobbles, ipad and phone cases and now dog accessories. What charming pooch wouldn’t want to be seen in one of the delightful HC collars? These will be launched at top end London stores this week and are available online, directly from HC.
So what sets HC aside from other design houses? Firstly it’s the presence of Jade HC. A brilliant saleswoman, she really cares (and knows) about her products. She ensures all her customers look their best and that every garment sold fits perfectly. HC are also ahead of the game in terms of the quality of materials used, and the way they are juxtaposed. This is contemporary dressing for discerning clientele who want something with superb quality, made in Britain. Above all Jade’s collections feel special to wear, as our winner Boffie pronounced more than once on our visit.
After much trying on she chose a fine blue and cream tweed cape with an added pink leather tassel which paid homage to her cross country colours – pink and blue.
‘I am so thrilled to have won this prize’, gushed Boffie, ‘I am aiming for 1* next year and will be so proud to wear my cape at trot up. I just can’t believe I’ve been so lucky to win’.
With all the EWW team in agreement that Boffie looked stunning we trotted off for coffee and dressage, leaving Jade and her team to meet her customers and ensure they looked just as fantastic.
The Team at EWW would like to thank Holland Cooper for their generous prize and also Jade for spending so much time with us, during quite a hectic day for all!
