Sir Mark Todd has been selected to go to his eighth Olympic Games following the official release of Team New Zealand. He already has 5 Olympic medals and will now set his sights on a sixth. The New Zealand Rio 2016 team are as follows:

  • Jonelle Price
  • Sir Mark Todd
  • Clarke Johnstone
  • Jonathan Paget
  • Tim Price (Travelling Reserve)

Clarke Johnstone never made it to London 2012 after having to pull out due to his horse being injured. He commented on the selection for Rio saying: “To go to Rio and try to win a medal for New Zealand has been my number one focus for the last four years, so to be one step closer again is really, really exciting. I can’t wait.”

Sir Mark Todd will also become New Zealand’s most senior Olympian. Kereyn Smith (NZ Olympic Committee CEO) said: “I would like to congratulate Sir Mark Todd on continuing to raise the bar ahead of his eighth Olympic Games appearance and wish every one of the athletes selected today all the very best in Rio.”

Sir Mark commented: “I am very happy with my horses at the moment and the strong team that has been named. I am looking forward to the competition.”

Congratulations to the New Zealand team that have been selected, they are surely going to be a strong team to contend against.
