MINI BADMINTON…..A FAMILY AFFAIR

My mother came to Badminton as a child, I came to Badminton as a child… my children have all come to Badminton from an early age. The event is a popular destination for families, for young, for old, locals and those travelling from afar.

The #MMBHT shopping village caters for this wide demographic offering product for both horse owners and country enthusiasts. The fashion Editor, being a mum of three, was interested to discover two stand out trade stands, offering something just a little different.

For beautifully designed children’s clothing visit Start Smart (193 Deerpark Drive). www.startsmart.co.uk . Start Smart offers children’s clothes that are super smart, classic, high quality and good value for money. Their clothing is produced in Europe and a high percentage made in the UK.

They trade online but also exhibit at several shows and outdoor events throughout the year. The EWW fashion team loved the mini girl’s cashmere capes, tweed and cotton print cotton party dresses (£50) and mini Alain Paine ranges for boys (classic knitwear in contemporary colours). The store also stocks adorable mini country ties, caps and belts.

Start Smart also has a bargain sale rail with boy’s shirts (£5) and a tan waxed jacket, a steal for £20.

If you are looking for classic children’s clothing with an edge then this retailer is worth a visit.

The fledgling toy company Grovely Wood (257 Beaufort Way) has been trading for the past year, but their beautifully hand crafted wooden toys were first produced back in 1999 for the founder’s two daughters. Both girls had a passion for anything involving horses and farms. Having found it difficult at the time to find any robust and lasting accessories for their toy horses and farm animals, their father, a keen carpenter, set about producing their first toy stable, complete with an array of fences and gates.

As the girls grew older the toys found themselves relegated to the back of a cupboard until late 2013 when they were retrieved and dusted down. Although the toys had been in constant use and subjected to hard play in their former years, they still appeared as good as new. During the ensuing months the family’s discussions kept returning to the toys. Eventually a plan evolved to try and turn the toys into a family business venture.

Groverly Wood www.grovelywood.co.uk has a range of wooden horses (that can be painted to match your own pony – £45), wooden stables (from £160), accessories and barns and even a defender and trailer set. For something truly unique visit their stand to see their interpretation of the iconic Mitsubishi L200 fence.
