Little Downham’s second British Eventing fixture of 2016 once again attracted a large number of entries, with more than 600 horse and riders combinations taking part in this popular Cambridgeshire event.

Little Downham (2) was the second event this year to trial the new BE105 class, aimed at giving competitors with an opportunity to ease the transition from BE100 before moving up to Novice. These classes, sponsored by Rossdales, attracted more than 50 entries. The winner in BE105 Section L was and Martel with an impressive score of 22.0, whilst Mary Edmundson and Jack In The Box II took victory in BE105 Section M.

Tamsyn Iver took her second victory of the year with Enniscrone Morgan Gold in BE90 Section A, finishing on a dressage score of 19.0 – with a winning margin of 9.8 penalties. But the lowest winning score of the weekend went to Susan Tomalin and Hoax in BE90 Section D, where the pair won with a score of 12.5. This section was particularly low scoring with the top three finishing with sub 20 penalty scores.

Joanne Watts and Darc Legend were the winners in BE90 Section B with a score of 23.3. This was the combination’s second win in a row at Little Downham, having won at the event in June, following their success at the Mitsubishi Motors Cup at Badminton where they were eighth. Joanne commented: “Lewis is such a good boy. I would love to go again to Badminton so I am aiming for some regionals in August and September. And next weekend I’m off to the British Riding Club Horse Trials Championships at Swalcliffe representing Carleton Riding Club.”

Another rider who competed at the Mitsubishi Motors Cup final took victory in BE100 Open section H. James Pratt continued his winning streak with Churchside Reflection. The pairing now has five wins to their name this year, with three in a row from their last three events, including Keysoe and Stratford Hills. On this occasion they won on their dressage score of 27.3 – a winning margin of 2.7 penalties.

New Zealand’s Caroline Powell was a double winner at the Cambridgeshire venue. She topped Novice Section J with Flipper K and BE100 Open Section O with Stracathro Solitary Mistral.
