British Eventing has launched a new Regional Team Challenge which will be hosted at Weston Park next October.
The team competition is aimed at riders over the age of 19 competing at BE90 level which will see them competing for their region, with eight regions across the UK, as part of a team of five.
The challenge has been launched following feedback from the annual members’ survey in order to provide a team competition opportunity for riders over the age of 18.
To be eligible, combinations must have three double-clears at BE90 level in 2019, must not have competed at the Mitsubishi Motors Cup and combinations cannot have completed more than two BE100’s. Riders will need to ensure that they have also attended a minimum of two BE Accredited Training courses between the 1st September 2018 and the 26th August 2019. Each team of five will allow for one drop score, and the team with the lowest cumulative score will be crowned the inaugural British Eventing Regional Challenge Champions 2019.
British Eventing Chief Executive, David Holmes, commented; “It is great to see another new initiative for riders at the entry levels of our sport; as this is the first time we have done a team competition like this for riders aged over 18, next year will very much be about trialing the format and eligibility criteria before rolling it out further and expanding the Challenge in 2020 and beyond.”
Riders wanting to compete in the BE90 Regional Team Challenge can apply online at www.britisheventing.com. Five combinations, plus two non-travelling reserves will be selected at random from eligible applicants. Applications close on the 31st August 2019.
