With summer and the Eventing season well underway trying to keep you and your horses cool is a task on its own, but what about ice packs for ice boots and for some of you eventers out there, keeping wine or champagne cool is a must!
After a bit of research and testing out some myself I have come up with my top 5 cool bags and boxes for hot sunny days! Don’t forget when packing your cool bag or box to put some ice blocks in as well.
The Igloo MaxCold is capable of keeping ice frozen for up to 5 days, even in the desert! With an insulated body and lid, and the smallest having capacity to store not only your ice boots but plenty of bubbly to entertain, this is a firm favourite for me. The boxes range from 36l to 157l with options for wheels to save carrying and prices starting from just £50 this is at the top of my list for a reason! There is a smaller lunchbag version if you just wanted to store ice boots and this is priced around the £20 mark.
The Vacanza electric coolbox by Outwell can keep its contents up to 20 degrees cooler than the outside temperature, it runs off 12v and 230v power supplies so can be plugged in your lorry but it also comes with a mains adapter. In the Spring and Autumn months should you wish to bring hot food to your event, the Vacanza can also keep food warm up to 60 degrees. Priced at just £70 this is a great piece of kit and good value for money.
Botanist Wicker Wine Cooler
This wicker wine cooler is perhaps the most sophisticated way to justify a daytime tipple. The bag, or rather, basket, can fit two bottles of bubbly and even comes with a waiters’ friend. You can’t fit your ice boots in it, but I love it anyway!
We couldn’t talk cooling without talking about Thermos, and priced at the lower end of the scale but still with a good capacity, the Thermos Radiance is a great choice! The Radiance is available in 4 sizes starting at just £9.50.
And finally for the budget conscious, priced at just £8.95 this stylish cooler bag will keep your ice packs cool. Whilst it doesn’t have the technical capability of some of the boxes, it is a nice classic looking bag. Lined with aluminium, with the assistance of ice blocks, I managed to keep my ice boots frozen for a few hours.
