International athletes line up for 2019 Saracen Horse Feeds Houghton International

This year the event runs from 23rd – 26thMay.


As usual, the event will welcome riders from across the globe. Fifteen nations will be represented, from Spain and Sweden to Brazil, Canada and Australia.

Serious contenders for victory in this competitive class include recent Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials winner Piggy French, who brings forward Cooley Monsoon and Graf Cavalier. Fellow team gold medallists from last year’s World Equestrian Games Gemma Tattersall and Tom McEwen are also on the entries list.

International riders heading to Norfolk include Klimke (GER), Vittoria Panizzon (ITA), Ludwig Svennerstall (SWE), Sam Griffiths (AUS), Karin Donkers (BEL), Class Romeike (GER) and many more.


There are 122 entries for the headline CCI4*-S class, which incorporates the only British leg of the FEI Eventing Nations Cup. Will Germany claim team victory once again?

Saracen Horse Feeds Houghton International also plays host to, and sponsors, the British Eventing Under 21 Championships (CCI3*-LYR). Heidi Coy, who took individual silver at last summer’s Junior European Championship, has four horses entered – including her medal winning Royal Fury. Bubby Upton brings Cola III and Eros DHI.

There are also CCI3*-L and CCI2*-L classes with the event boasting more than 350 entries in total.Saracen Horse Feeds Houghton International is also part of the Tri-Star Fairfax Saddles Novice League

Running alongside the International event, there are show jumping, combined training, dressage, arena eventing and pony club classes, as well as the popular Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse qualifiers. New for this year is an invitation only Varsity challenge between teams from Oxford and Cambridge.


For those less horse-orientated there will be ‘have a go’ dog agility hosted by Riding for the Disabled, Musketeer’s charity for this year, children’s entertainment, more than 70 trade stands, food outlets, and a licenced bar.

Razz and Pearl’s Circus Workshops provide fantastic entertainment for children of all ages. Whether it’s balloon animals or spinning plates, they’ve got it all. Razz and Pearl will be at Houghton International on both Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May.
