So the season has finally kicked off which is just fantastic!! It’s been great to catch up with all of the riders again after a long winter, and it’s been lovely getting to know the new horses in my team.
The first event of the season was Moreton on March 7th where Fozzle and Dre were competing in the Open Novice. They both contained their excitement very well with Fozzle doing a 33 double clear to finish 4th! Dre did a beautiful test, show jumped clear and then unfortunately I had to retire half way around the cross country due to him feeling very low on energy. Richard Stringer, our vet, came the next day to take his bloods, and the test showed he had a virus – poor chap! Luckily he recovered quite quickly and is now back to his usual fighting fit self again!
Zara and Charlie made their 2015 season debut at Tweseldown in the Open Novice where both performed very impressively. Zara did a 27 double clear to win and Charlie a 30 double clear to finish 2nd!! Fozzle also was a good boy and performed a very smart test of 28, but unfortunately rolled a pole in the Open Novice, which moved him down to 6th place. So overall, a pretty awesome weekend!
Aldon was then the following weekend, and all of the horses were competing there over the three days – including Brook having his first party of the year. Dre was in the Intermediate Novice and was a star – it was his first run since being ill and he performed a very respectable 24 dressage, followed up with a fantastic cross country round… so it’s great to know he’s fully recovered! Brook, Zara, Fozzle and Charlie were all competing in the hotly contested OIu21 Young Rider Trial – which was the first Young Rider Trial of the year. The four all went well – Charlie and Brook had unfortunate faults across country (my fault with both), but I rode Fozzle and Zara better and they were FANTASTIC, finishing 1st and 3rd!!! I was over the MOON! It was my first Intermediate on Fozzle so it was great to feel him really step up to the mark and perform better under more pressure.
We have a very rare weekend at home due to all the horses competing intensely the past few weeks. The next event is Somerley next Wednesday where Dre is competing in the Open Novice and Fozzle in the Open Intermediate. I can’t wait for next weekend, as that’s when we’re heading up to Norfolk for Burnham Market which is the first International event of the year! – Brook is competing in the CIC*** and Charlie and Zara are making their debut at Advanced level, which I’m SO excited about!!
I will be competing in CIC*** classes and Young Rider trials over the next few months… so everything crossed all goes well!
