The German team has announced the riders which it hopes will help them regain both team and individual titles at the Olympic Games in Rio this summer.
Defending individual champion Michael Jung will have the choice of three horses to take including his 2012 mount, La Biosthetique Sam FBW. He also has the choice of fischerTakinou, with whom he won team and individual gold at the European Championships at Blair Castle, and four star winner fischerRocana FST.
Current world champion Sandra Auffarth has been nominated with Opgun Louvo, who took her to individual bronze in 2012. Other team members include Ingrid Klimke with Horseware Hale Bob OLD and Andreas Ostholt with So is et.
Other riders on ther long list have been nominated in two blocks, from which it is likely reserves will be chosen. Block 1 consists of Bettina Hoy & with Designer 10, Julia Krajewski with Samourai du Thot and Dirk Schrade with Hop and Skip. The second block is made up of Claas Hermann Romeike with Cato and Andreas Dibowski with It’s Me xx
The final team decision will be made on July 17, following Aachen where a number of riders will be competing as part of their final preparations.
The long list was announced by the German Olympic Equestrian Committee following the completion of competition at Luhmuhlen where German riders won both the CCI**** and CIC***.
German Chef d’Equipe Hans Melzer was more than happy with his teams’ performance this weekend commenting: “Winning both classes is a real achievement, and all our riders did extremely well. We now have selected the pairs we would like to take to Rio and I am confident, we have picked a strong team.”
