The Finnish Olympic Committee has named event rider Elmo Jankara as part of its Rio Olympic team.
Jankara will be aiming to ride the 11-year-old Oldenburg mare Duchess Désirée.
Jankara says: “This is a wonderful thing, the biggest dream has always been to ride the Olympics. It is also great that the choice is already confirmed at this stage. Now I can focus on the preparation for the Rio to the fullest. It is great to be going to Rio with DD. We have acquired a place there together, and I believe that we will be able to perform well there.”
In preparation for the Olympic Games, Jankara is planning on competing in Wiesbaden in Germany in mid-May and a month later Luhmuhlen. Entering the competition at Aachen in July is also a possibility, although it is close to when the horses will fly to Brazil at the end of July.
Finland has one eventing entry into the Olympics by virtue of a top finish in the North Western Europe individual FEI Olympic rankings. It will be the first time the country has had a representative in the eventing competition at the Olympics since 2000.
Finland is scheduled to mark its Olympic comeback in eventing for the first time since the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
