EWW is excited to welcome Rachel Tooley to the team,
Rachel will be keeping us up to date with all the best bits of being a British Eventing Volunteer and why you should get involved.
So for now we leave Rachel to introduce herself….
I’m 16 years old and I have been riding since I was 10. I rode riding school ponies and my friends ponies for a long time, until I finally got my first loan pony, Flirt.
She’s an angel and tried her heart out at everything we did! We loved going out show jumping at local shows, she really taught me a lot and bought up my confidence. Unfortunately, we never had the chance to go eventing! She turned 24 earlier this year, but still has lots of life left in her!
My current loan is called Chester – he is the first horse I’ve had and ridden (I’ve always been a pony girl!),I have high hopes for us together, and hopefully we will have lots of adventures in months to come!
I have been volunteering with BE for a few months now, my first event was at the beginning of summer at Shelford horse trials. I really enjoyed my experience, and went on to attend many more events, including the incredible Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials this year! I love being behind the scenes at events all over the country – there is a real buzz in the atmosphere! Each role has it’s perks, and volunteering gives me the chance to meet many lovely people along the way. I find it a real privilege to have the opportunity to share my experiences with EWW readers, and I hope you all enjoy reading my article – maybe even encourage you to try volunteering for yourselves!’
