Sammie Stapleton reports ..
The sun shone all over the weekend of Treborough Hill Horse Trials giving spectators a real treat as most of the course can be seen from one spot as well as South Wales across the channel.
15 sections were ran over the two days ranging from BE80(T) to Novice, the 4 courses proved difficult in places and the time challenging.
BE80(T) section M was the slightly larger section of the two, and winning this section with a dressage of 31.5 and 2.8 time faults to add was Jasmine Bigg on her Galando. The 17hh bay 7yo by Aerobic scored a dressage of 31.5, did a clear showjumping and cross country but gained just 2.8 time penalties to secure the win for Jasmine.
“We purchased Galando about a year ago and my partner Bradley Moore-Taylor competed him in in the second half of last years season, completing some 80’s and 90’s with placings.
I’ve been off of the eventing circuit for about three years due to having children and at the beginning of the year, I never thought I’d be where I am today.
We run a breaking and schooling yard and because of this, we generally back horses, get them to a certain level and then they are either gone home to their owners or sold on, so it is really nice that we have managed to keep Galando for ourselves to enjoy.
I have only been riding him for three months and within the last month I have created a bond with him. We had a couple events in April and May that didn’t go as planned, but we got our first win at Pontispool end of May which I was over the moon with, and to come out again to Trebrough and win is just incredible. He is a once in a lifetime horse and has been a real star for me, and we now aim at moving up to the 90 at Bicton.
We are sponsored by Rebecca Thom, an McTimoney animal therapist and equine touch practitioner, and she makes sure Galando is in tip top competition condition”

The BE100 cross country optimum time proved influential, as the 4 minutes and 56 seconds put some faults on horses and riders records. Few got in in the time and the penalties racked up across the scoreboards, the showjumping time also proving difficult to get. The tracks in themselves didn’t cause many problems, although the cross country had several questions.
Sarah-Jane Brown won the BE100 section B with 14.2hh, 8 yo mare Rising Sun Lady.
“I’m totally delighted. I brought Ellie (Rising Sun Lady) as a project 2 years ago from my friends at Avonmill Equestrian and she has been too nice to sell again although at only 14.2hh I think a junior home will be found sometime.
She has been my rock after my confidence loss over the winter meaning we dropped back to BE90 for a couple of events. She has been double clear in 4 out of 4 events this year. A real little pocket rocket with a heart of gold”
