Ruth Gregory reports …
The glorious summer sunshine continued as the North Yorkshire based event welcomed competitors last weekend, the 8th and 9th of August. Joint organisers Timothy Bennett, Robin Bower and Sarah Nield and their team worked hard to provide another wonderful summer event with sections running from BE80(T) to BE100- including the first of the BE80 Regional Final qualifiers.
Winners of that class were Anna Harris and City of Angels. They added nothing to their dressage score of 21.8 to secure the win. It is the combination’s second season eventing together and only their second event this year; they finished 9th at Frickley a few weeks ago.
Angela Gent and Angel Desire finished in second, the pair also completed on their dressage mark of 23.5.
Leaders after dressage were Amy Dixon and Goodluck II- they posted a very impressive mark of 18.3. Unfortunately, they rolled a pole showjumping but jumped clear cross country to remain in a top 3 position.
Local star Nicola Wilson picked up a win in the BE100 section A with Milnes Coates and Penny Marriner’s, Jack Daniels L Z. The 6YO is a new ride for Nicola this season, their win here follows on from their BE100 win at Frickley Park in July.
Cheshire based Tyler Cassells bagged himself a BE100 win in section C riding MC Parco Pete. The grey gelding is usually campaigned by owner Amanda Hemming, so Tyler definitely made the most of his opportunity.
Andrews Downes and Cooley High Thyme took the win in Section B. Nicholas Moss’ gelding, who’s a son of Ramiro B, jumped double clear to finish on his dressage mark of 25.3.
The dressage leaders were Andrew Heffernan and Ballingowan Benedict on a smart score of 22.0, they picked up 4 faults to drop them into second place. Andrew also finished second in section D with Gill Shea’s mare Enola.
Making up the top 3 was North Yorkshire girl Connie Gill with her own Sydney’s Suagr Beach. It was only the gelding’s second event and first attempt at this level, where he did not disappoint by finishing on his dressage score of 27.5.
Another North Yorkshire youngest, Charlie Donaldson had a very successful weekend picking up two wins in the BE90 sections. She took the section N win with the 14.2hh pony Allandale Misty. Whilst her other win was from section F with Cappa Abbey. Charlie has been eventing both of her rides for 3 seasons but the wins here are her first.
It was a weekend of rewards for the Yorkshire locals as Charlotte Milnes was another lady making dreams come true by not only gaining her first eventing win at Skipton but doubling it! She won the BE90Open section L with her long-time campaigner Forinth. It was a foot perfect performance for them as they jumped double clear to finish on their dressage mark of 23.8.
Her second victory was in the BE80(T) section I with JD II, a ride usually competed by her Mum Jo, who was busy juggling grooming duties around helping in the control box.
Charlotte also ‘stole’ her Mum’s other horse Carnsdale Show Man to finish second in Section K.
Charlotte told Eventing Worldwide;
“It was a bit of a dream day to get my first win then a second only a few hours later! Forinth is now 21 and has had a full season at stud so for him to come out feeling so well is amazing- and I may be stealing the two 80 horses again soon.
She may need to be careful as I have already planned another outing at Frickley with the boys whilst she’ll be working!”
