Lincolnshire Horse Trials hosted the second Pony Trial of the year alongside sections ranging from BE100 to Advanced Intermediate, including Novice and BE100 sections for under 18 riders.
Nicola Wilson stole the show in the BE100 sections, winning 3 of the 5 sections. The 4* Yorkshire rider won Section A on Cooley Conker, Section B on All We Need and Section D on Elite Jaguar. Nicola finished on her dressage score on all of them with every score being under 30.
Lauren Shannon won BE100 Section N riding Russal Z, the combination finished on their dressage score 22. Gemma Tattersall finished up in 2nd on Billy Shania after adding 4.4 time penalties to the best dressage score of the section; 20.5.
Young Rider Ella Marshall won BE100 Section O on Prince Aladdin after adding only 4 jumping penalties to their dressage score of 27, leaving them on a winning score of 31. Daisy-May Guest came 2nd on Pinwizard, with it being their first event of the season.
Bubby Upton won the NU18 class on Cola III, Bubby finished on 33.6 fter adding 5.6 time faults to the only sub 30 dressage score in the section; 28. Bubby and Cola III finished on an overall score of 33.6, with second placed rider Henry Scott finishing 5.6 penalties behind with Its Sharons Choice.
Following her win Bubby told us: “I was absolutely thrilled with how Cola went. He is a new horse for me this season and he is maturing and improving all of the time. We have had a great start to our partnership so far this season and he is such a dream to ride because he has a heart of gold and always wants to learn. I am very excited about his future and I really think that he is going to be extremely special.”
There were 5 Novice Sections and 2 ON Sections throughout the weekend.
Christina Henriksen won Novice Section F with Cayr Della Caccia. The combination jumped double clear and added 2.4 time penalties to a dressage score of 28.8 to finish up top of the table. Christina beat the likes of Piggy French and Oliver Townend, with Piggy coming 2nd on Madame Butterfly IV and Oliver Townend coming 3rd on Attractive Proposition.
Piggy French also came 2nd in N Section G on Big Berry. The combination finished behind Sophie Johnson and Ernst who took the lead after adding 0.4 reverse time faults to their dressage score of 35.3.
Izzy Taylor topped N Sections H and K. Izzy won section H by finishing on her dressage score of 29 on Monkeying Around. Section K was won on board Ballycoog Guinness after also finishing on a dressage score of 28.8.
Hotshots and Connie Gill took the victory in the Pony Trial. They were one of only three combinations to finish on their dressage score. Connie finished on 30.5, just ahead of Iona Sclater and Foxtown Cufflyn, who also finished on their dressage score of 31.3.
Oliver Jackson and Daydream Fourteen had the best dressage, being the only Pony Trial combination to achieve a dressage score under 30. However, adding 2 time penalties to the 29.8 dressage score meant that they slipped down into 3rd place.
Oliver Townend won every Intermediate section in which he was in. After winning all three Open Intermediate Sections of the weekend and one of the two normal Intermediate sections.
The only Intermediate section that wasn’t won by Oliver was Section R. Rosalind Canter won this section on Las Vegas 200, finishing on a score of 35.7 after adding 8 time penalties to a dressage score of 27.7.
Kitty King was the only rider in the Advanced Intermediate which finished on their dressage score. Kitty was riding Ceylor L A N and had the best dressage score of the section, attaining 29.1 to then finish on that score.
Amelia Walker took the win in a tight Intermediate Novice class with Coromandel II, after finishing on a dressage score of 33.2. Sam York and Oakring Dalliance also finished on their dressage score of 33.2, however finished up in 2nd place.
