Cat Jamieson reports …
Homme House Horse Trials held over the 8th – 9th August 2017, by Kind permission of Captain and Mrs J Finnigan, at Homme House, Much Marcle near Ledbury, is always a popular mid week event – set in the most beautiful countryside, it attracts a range of amateur and professional competitors with classes ranging from 90 to Novice, including a well entered 4 & 5 year old class, and a Regional Final for the Mitsubishi Motors Cup.
Unfortunately, I am only able to report on the 8th of August day as the 9th was cancelled due to severe rain fall, all the packed lunches from the cancelled days eventing were kindly donated to Emmaus Centre in Gloucester, who were going to be donating the soup and sandwiches to the homeless.
Section A was won by Oliver Townend who had 5 horses at the event, 1st place on Fernhill Freestyle and 3rd place Kroongraaf Hallo, 2nd place went to Alexander Bragg who also had 5 horses at the event but this 2nd place on Bloomfield Tiger Two.
Heidi Page tells me a little about her gelding Duke V who came 9th “Duke took the plunge and did his first Novice at Homme House with Sarah who has been keeping on top of him whilst I recover from injury. They have been doing an amazing job and have a super partnership. The ground was lovely and we managed to miss the rain to start with! We were in a hot section A and also against Sarah’s second ride, Holly (Coton Rainbow Star) His dressage was a little tense but overall a fair mark of 33, followed by a super clear SJ which gave him no concern – he’s a Show jumper at heart and with that he’s careful, so we’ve worked on getting him going more forward this year. They did super and came home with a double clear and a 9th place which is fantastic for a move up the levels, a real confident round! Holly also finished in the top 10 coming 6th – she was second last to go in the section so we had a bit of rain by then but although wet and sticky the ground was very good and rode well.”
Section B was won by Millie Dumas – Katie Dumas said “We had double winners yesterday at Homme House! Millie won the Novice on KEC Deakon belonging to owner Ellie Guy on a 30.9 score.
Louise Harwood who came 2nd on Trevillick said “Trevillick is owned by Simon Long and Wendy Wilson. Bred by Preci Spark, Out of Wexford Lady and by Jaguar Mail. Bought as 3 year old and I’ve got high hopes for him.”
Louise who also came 4th in Section C also told me about Wishing Time “he was bred by his owner Rachel White. I broke him in and did his first events then Rachel has been competing him at 100 level and I have taken him on to do Novice. He won his first Novice at Nunney this year and now another good placing here.”
The section was won by Becky Woolven on Everlyne, who has had a successful season so far working from 90 to Novice and placed out at each event.
Ellie Guy went on to win Section D on her own Ard Cluedo, Katie Dumas spoke for Ellie saying “she had her first ever BE win in on Ard Cluedo! A Good day” Polly Stockton and Tim Rogers followed close in 2nd and 3rd place.
Section E the BE100+ won by Jamie-Lee Day, Jamie told me about Larim R “He’s a 6yo owned by CG Eventing, we’ve had him since a 3yo and been produced solely by myself. This is his first year eventing as we wanted to give him time to grow and he’s now stepping up into novice with the aim of a late CIC* if he is ready, he’s grown a little bigger than I’m used to at nearly 16.3 but he has the most amazing trainable and kind temperament and I think he has a really exciting future ahead of him!”
Heidi Coy Eventing took the 5 year old Class section F sponsored by KBIS, she told me “Halle started her eventing career this year and started with a win at Eland Lodge BE90, then double clear and 5th at Bradwell BE100, 4th Gt Witch 5yo and 5th at Stafford! We have missed out qualifying by 1 place twice now so it was nice to have a win! I plan on doing a novice on her before Osberton. I have another 5yo at Osberton and a 7yo championships and another horse for the 1*! hope to produce her to be my young rider horse as I am only 17yo now and still have another year left in juniors”
Section G won by Vicky Tuffs on Heartbeat, 2nd to Oli Townend on Weston Goodfella his 4th ride of the day, and 3rd place to Charlotte Armstrong.
Section H Holly Woodhead had a strong day with a 4 top 10 placings out of 5 rides, 2 wins in section H & I the BE100. Holly also came second in section H, Holly told her Facebook supporters how pleased she was with her horses and what a busy start to the week it was, “we have started the week as we mean to go on, 5 of the younger horses at Homme House, so pleased with how the horses went, love them all to pieces” Holly had a quick turn around after her 16 hour day as they were unloading, repacking and then straight off to Haras Du Pin.
We wish her and everyone else off to Haras the best of luck.
