Sarah Carless reports…
The last of the British Eventing Fixtures in 2017 took place at Beacons Equestrian as riders continued their winter training through the Arena Eventing series.
Harriet Tilling and Toys Hot Toddy were the victors in the 90cm class. Harriet is a second year Equine Science student in Aberystwyth University and she has owned Toddy, a 13 year old thoroughbred, for the past three years.
She told Eventing Worldwide: “We have been competing on our local workers circuit but I have wanted to event since I can remember and can’t wait to give it a go in 2018! Toddy is based in Aberystwyth with me at Lluest Equine Centre, so I am currently balancing his workload with my degree. We chose to go to the Arena Eventing as we hope to event together this year for the first time and so we thought it would be a great way to get started in BE. The fact that he won was truly amazing and bit of a shock to be honest. To do our first affiliated event together with such an amazing result was surreal. He’s definitely a once in a lifetime horse and I’m so proud of him. It’s also lovely to get him out to a series over the winter and build our confidence ready for the season to begin.”
The 80cm class was won by Iola Parry riding Poppys Cariad whilst Alicia Bulmer and Tillington Diamond took victory in the 100cm class.
Unfortunately, due to Storm Caroline, the last Arena Eventing competition of the year at Vale View was cancelled due to bad weather conditions. The next Arena Eventing competition will take place on January 7 at Bicton Arena.
