EVENT REPORTS – Catton Park

Millie Wain reports…

Catton Park hosted two days of competition with classes ranging from BE100 to Intermediate level. There were 16 sections, with BE100 and Novice classes on Saturday and Novice and Intermediate on the Sunday.

The KBIS 5yo section was competitive, with many combinations jumping double clears. The class was won by Dani Cuomo and Milestone Wulf; the pair posted a dressage score of 23.8 to lead the dressage phase by nearly 4 penalties. They picked up 1.6 time penalties across the country but this was still enough to secure their win. This is the first season on eventing for Milestone Wulf, whose sire is Harlequin Du Carel, and the combination has picked up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd in three of their four runs.

The winner of BE100 section A was Samantha Hobbs riding Just Soda No Ice; they added nothing to their dressage score of 25 penalties. Samantha also took the top spot in BE100 section E with I Diablo Joe on a score of 26.3 penalties. Just Soda No Ice was the winner of the 4yo championship at Osberton last year and won a 5yo section at Shelford Manor a few weeks ago. Likewise, I Diablo Joe won a 5yo section at Shelford Manor too and has had to wins and a 2nd place at BE100 so far this year.

In the Novice sections, the cross country optimum time of 5 minutes and 6 seconds proved to be difficult to achieve and it was influential in deciding the final placings. In section G, only the top four combinations managed to complete without time penalties. The winner of this section was Victoria Wilson aboard Don’t You Know, finishing with a score of 30.5. Second place went to Harriette Howard with Starholme Class In A Glass and Katie Corteen finished third with Curra Oko.

The winners of section K of the Novice were Jasmine Holmes and Doolin De Reve, who were one of two combinations in the section to complete on their dressage score, which was 32.8 penalties. They were in 9th place after the first phase but their double clear took them to the top of the leader board by 1.1 penalties. In second place was Jo Carlin riding Hiltje L and third place went to Bethany Humphries with CVS Xena De Bournival with a score of 35.9 penalties.

Brier Leahy took the top spot in the Intermediate section O. The combination led from the start and jumped a quick double clear, adding 5.6 time penalties on the cross country phase to their dressage score of 26.8. Second place went to Lisa Freckingham riding The Classic Composer and in third place was Polly Stockton aboard Drummer.

There were 28 starting combinations in the OIu21 class. The winner of this section was Rosa Onslow riding RLE Limbo Kaiser. The combination scored 29.3 in the dressage and added 9.2 cross country time penalties to that. The scores were tight in this section, with just 1.1 penalties separating the top four. In second place were Lucy Robinson and RLE French Clover, and Harriet Wright came third aboard Ardeevin Ruby. Lucy and Rosa also finished 4th and 5th respectively with their other rides in section P.
