EVENT REPORTS – Burnham Market (2)

Sarah Carless reports ….

The second of Burnham Market’s British Eventing Fixtures attracted nearly 250 entries, with the sections from BE80(T) to Open Novice taking place across one day of competition.

Joanne Watts marked her birthday with a win in BE90 Section H with Darc Legend. Joanne tied at the top of the leaderboard with Abi Jacobs on a score of 29.0 but coming home closer to the optimum time provided Joanne with victory. The pair have been placed in each of their five outings this year, and this was their second win of the year, having previously won at Poplar Park (1) in March. Unfortunately, the pair missed competing at this year’s Mitsubishi Motors Cup Championship at Badminton after Darc Legend overreached at Poplar Park and required stitches to his injury.

Joanne told Eventing Worldwide: “I found out Friday night that we had got in. He went really nicely Sunday, and gave me a lovely ride round the cross country. He only came back into work again in the summer due to his injury and it has taken a while to get him feeling like himself again. He is a big chap and box rest doesn’t suit him – mentally or physically. But Sunday was great. He led from the start and finished on his dressage score – his way of saying happy birthday we thought.”

A host of top British riders also headed to Burnham Market, and came away with wins on their younger horses. Amongst these were Willa Newton, who won BE100 Section A with Cock A Doodle Too, who has now been placed on this last three outings.

Simon Grieve and Bonhunt Bertie collected their tenth top ten placing of the year and their second win when they topped the table in BE100 Section B. Sarah Bullimore and Starbucks I have have had seven top ten placings this season and when they topped BE100 Section C at Burnham Market it marked their third win. Matthew Heath and Gracie IV were another combination to take their third win of the season in Novice section E, with this their first win at Novice level.

Other section results: BE100 Open Section D Lucy Mason, Call Me Ishmael; Novice Section F Piggy French, AKD Corline; Open Novice Section G Susie Berry, Morswood; BE90 Section I Tina Canton, Crogan; BE80(T) Section J Rosie Hull, Master Comic.
