In addition, there are two previous European Champions and one World Champion and countless Olympic medallists.

Oliver Townend will be looking for an 11th win in the headline CCI4*-S class, one which he has made very much his own over the last 12 years. He brings seven horses to the event, including his Burghley winner Ballaghmor Class and 2018 Kentucky winner Cooley Master Class, with this likely to their final run before they head to the USA to defend their crown.

Other Five Star winners include Tim and Jonelle Price, Andrew Nicholson, Caroline Powell, William Fox-Pitt, Pippa Funnell and Mary King.Three members of the victorious gold medal winning team from last year’s World Equestrian Games will be competing – Piggy French, Tom McEwen, Gemma Tattersall.

In a change of scheduling, riders will be competing their top horses on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the Intermediate and Advanced classes will take place whilst Sunday’s action will be dominated by the International jumping phases, the CCI3*-S and CCI*4*-S classes. One hundred and sixty combinations are entered in to the CCI4*-S, which has been split in to two sections as a result. The CCI3*-S will be no walk in the park to win either, with 115 entrants.

Whilst there are stellar entries in the two international classes, the Advanced class has attracted a top class field with several riders using it fine-tune their horses in preparation for the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials including Padraig McCarthy (Mr Chunky), Willa Newton (Chance Remark), Emily Philp (Camambert), Virginia Thompson (Star Nouveau), Tomoto Kazuma (Tacoma Dhorset), Sarah Bullimore (Reve De Rouet), Kristina Cook (Billy The Red and Star Witness), Isabel English (Feldale Mouse), Louise Harwood (Balladeer Miller Man), Kitty King (Ceylor LAN & Vendredi Biats) and Selena O’Hanlon (Foxwood High).
