Event Horse Owners Association gains support of Weatherbys Private Banking
February 9, 2015 – The Event Horse Owners Association is delighted to announce Weatherbys Private Banking as its principle sponsor for 2015.
Founded in 1770 by James Weatherby, the seventh generation family-run company has its roots in the horse racing industry but has built up a successful private bank.
Roger Weatherby, Chief Executive of Weatherbys Bank said: “Weatherbys have been involved in horse racing sponsorship for many years. However, 2013 saw us venture into headline sponsorship in the eventing world for the first time. Since then we have been involved with a growing number of events, including the 2014 Badminton Horse Trials, where we first worked alongside the EHOA.”
He added: “As we well know from the sport of horse racing, owners are key to the success and continuity of the sport, and we are delighted to announce our sponsorship of the EHOA in 2015. We look forward to meeting many of you at EHOA events throughout the year.”
The EHOA was founded in 1998 by a number of owners of event horses who were supporting the sport but felt that they were being seen as the sport’s outsiders. Through its work, the EHOA is now recognised throughout the sport and is widely regarded as the ‘Voice for Owners.’
The EHOA’s Jeremy Skinner said: “Last year, after a careful review, we moved our banking to Weatherbys Bank, seeing that as a natural fit. For us this has been excellent. To have a bank with staff we now know well makes all the difference.
“I am, therefore, delighted that Weatherbys Private Banking has agreed to cement our relationship with them. Weatherbys Bank is now the ‘Event Owners’ Bank. We shall be welcoming people from the bank to our hospitality marquees during the season.”
Owners are now fully accepted by riders, organisers, British Eventing, the sport’s governing arm, and the media as playing an essential role in the sport. Having been the forerunner of rider training which BE has carried on, the Association’s further aim is to make eventing even more fun for owners.
The EHOA hosts hospitality marquees at many major events, including Badminton, Burghley, The British Eventing Championships at Gatcombe and Obsberton, and it will continue to exert pressure on event organisers to provide spaces for owners to sit down, enjoy a cup of tea and meet up with friends.
The EHOA’s chairman Cathy Butler said: “We are excited at the prospect of working closely with Weatherbys. With their support we shall indeed be able to make eventing more fun for owners.”
