Equestrian Sport New Zealand’s High Performance Director has welcomed the announcement from High Performance Sport New Zealand that sees equestrian remain on $1.8 million a year for the next two years.
Sarah Dalziell-Clout commented: “It’s reassuring that we continue to be a targeted sport and it shows the support and confidence that HPSNZ have in our eventing high performance programme. We recognise how fortunate we are to get this ongoing financial investment given the limited pool of funds and the range of successful sports competing for that investment,” she said.
“While we were just off the podium in Rio, our riders have consistently been in the top 10 in the world rankings, we had two combinations in the top 10 in Rio. Our high performance combinations have also been incredibly consistent at 4* level – the highest level of eventing. However, our foot cannot come off the pedal – going forward we know we need to continue to perform.
“The programme will be looking to further drive repeatable and sustainable success beyond Tokyo by continuing to support and improve the performance of our elite combinations while also further developing our up and coming riders and future championship horses.”
