Forty-seven combinations have entered the Longines Luhmühlen CCI5*-L with a strong contingent of British riders making the trip to Germany.
Riders from 14 nations will participate including 20 British combinations. The British contingent is led by Sarah Bullimore (Conpierre and Reve Du Rouet) and Andrew James (Cool Chica and Hold Me Down) who are both taking two horses. On the back of a successful run at CCI4* level, Tom McEwen will be hoping his good form with Figaro van het Broekxhof continues. Other top british riders entered are Kristina Cook (Calvino II) and Zara Tindall (Watkins).
Isabella Innes Ker will be making her top-flight debut with Carolyn as will Charlotte Bacon with Last Touch. Other British riders making their debut include George Hilton Jones (Efraim) and Eliza Stoddart (Dick O Malley). There is one other CCI5* debutant in the field – Frankie Thieriot Stutes(USA, Chatwin) and Louise Bloomer (IRE, Hollybrook High in the Sky)
Two further riders from Ireland are on the entry list; Tony Kennedy (Westeria Lane) and Sam Watson (Imperial Sky and Tullabeg Flamenco). New Zealanders Mark Todd (Kiltubrid Rhapsody) and Tim Price (Ascona M) are also making the trip from the UK as is Australian rider Sam Griffiths (Paulank Brockagh).
With the FEI European Championships being held at Luhmühlen later this year (August 28 to September 1st), most German riders have elected to compete in the CCI4*, as is standard practice in a championship year. However, Nicolai Aldinger (Tactic), Andreas Dibowski (FRH Butts Avedon), Frank Ostholt (Corvette and Jum Jum) and Dirk Schrade (Unteam de la Cense) are all entered in the CCI5*.
