EMILY KING – Wow what a fantastic start to the season!

Wow what a fantastic start to the season! This past weekend we’ve been up in Norfolk, for the wonderful Burnham Market Horse Trials, which hosts one of the UK’s first CIC***’s in the event calendar. Brook, thumb__Q9Y5641_1024Foz and Charlie were all fantastic in the CIC*** – Brook did a lovely test of 41 (which had a few little mistakes but generally I was very pleased), followed up with a super double clear… but I only took him medium speed XC to pick up 10 time pens and finished 10th! I could have raced around quicker across country to finish higher up the placings, but he has lots of bigger and more important events coming up which I didn’t want to risk injuring him for. I was extremely pleased with how felt though. He has recently been accepted into Badminton Horse Trials (which is just SO exciting), so it was a great run in preparation for that! Zara Porterhill & Michelle Clough’s Foz did a fantastic double clear in his first UK CIC***, which I was over the moon with and Lord Patrick Beresford’s Charlie did a superb clear SJ, then went excellently XC but unfortunately stumbled into water so I had to make a circle to the middle element, but felt great around the rest of the course. Currant was also very impressive in his first CIC**, show jumping clear and was very confident and classy around a testing XC track. Unfortunately I nearly missed out a fence and had to cross my tracks to get back and jump it, whoops, sorry Currant, 20 penalties which was not fault of his! So otherwise a great weekend all-round!

thumb__Q9Y5545_1024I had three horses competing in the first Young Rider European Trial of the year at Aldon, two weeks ago, which went very well with Foz winning the class and Zara finishing 3rd. Dre also had a fantastic start to the season yesterday at Portman Horse Trials, winning the Intermediate Novice on a 20 double clear… so great to be back competing him again, as he unfortunately had to miss the first few events of the season due to being kick out in the field – but he’s obviously fully recovered now and back on form!! Gill Jonas’ lovely 8 year old gelding, Del Piero (Peter), is back competing this year after having a year off due to injury. He had two great runs at Moreton and Aldon, then did an impressive 27 double clear for 4th place in the Intermediate Novice yesterday at Portman. So it’s great to have him back in the yard again!

Brook and I are gearing up for our first Badminton… which is just ridiculously exciting!!! With three and a half weeks to go, his preparations are in full swing… he will compete at Belton CIC*** next weekend, where he will dressage and showjump, but more than likely won’t run cross country as it’s getting pretty close to Badminton, or maybe just do half of the course. He will also go to Bicton horse trials on April 22nd to dressage and showjump in the Advanced Intermediate as a final preparation. So all extremely exciting and I just can’t wait to actually get there… it will be a total dream come true!

My next events are Weston Park this weekend where I am taking Peter (Del Piero) and Currant (Cooley Currency) for the OIu21 Young Rider Trial, followed by Belton Horse Trials the following weekend, with Brook, Foz (Loxley), Charlie (Charlemagne) and Zara (Walitze F Vejgard) for the CIC*** and Dre (Dargun) and Currant for the OIu21. So everything crossed!!
