My top horse at the moment – Dargun, has been going very well recently and finished 3rd in the prestigious Intermediate Championships at Gatcombe last weekend! He did a beautiful test followed by a super double clear. I gained a few time penalties across the XC… As the terrain is very in undulated at Gatcombe Park and even though I wanted to be competitive, he is still quite young in his body… So I decided to take him quick but not chase the time as much as possible and risk sustaining an injury. This resulted in us accumulated a few time penalties, which prevented us from winning – never the less I was still absolutely over the moon with him! He will next compete in the final trial for the Young Rider European Champs at Wellington on Aug 28th, where then the GB Team will be announced the following day… So everything crossed!
Charlemagne has unfortunately had a change of career path… He has been my top horse throughout the Spring, competing at *** level… But recently has proven to just be slightly too careful for the big *** XC tracks. He has always been an incredible showjumper, so I am now competing him at jumping shows with the view to sell him when the time with right. He will head to Scope Festival next week for the U21 Champs, and then Bonheiden CSI***, in Belgium at the beginning of September.
Our homebred horses are all coming along sweetly with Mum competing the three 6yo’s and myself our 5yo – Rosie, who is out of Kings Temptress and by Grafinstoltz. She is a lovely model, with a great movement, jump and temperament… But unfortunately is 2hh smaller than we hoped! – her half brothers at 17hh and she is 15.1hh! But she had a great mind and a big heart… So hopefully she will prove that size doesn’t matter!
My mare Walitze F Vejgard, who is out of action this year due to a tendon injury, is currently with the Beaufort Embryo Transfer Centre. She has just produced 2 embryos, with Royaldik as the sire… So fingers crossed the recipient mares are pregnant when scanned in a couple of weeks. She is making good use of her relaxing year not competing!
So an exciting few months ahead… everything crossed that Dargun and I are selected for the Young Rider European Championships and they we are able to do our country proud and return with some medals!
