British rider David Doel triumphed at the first of Barroca d’Alva spring international events.
Riding Eisfee, owned by Ian and Jane James, the Wiltshire-based eventer produced an impressive performance in the CCI3*-S (formerly CIC**) to finish on his dressage score of 23.5.
The pair were in contention following the dressage, just 0.2 penalties behind Dutch rider Tim Lips and Eclips. But when they retired on the cross country, Doel jumped into pole position. Going into the show jumping Doel had a pole in hand as the Brazillian duo of Marcio Carvalho Jorge and Lissy Mac Wayer lowered a one rail. But keeping calm Doel produced a lovely clear round to take victory. He also finished in ninth with Christine Lee’s Ferro Point.
Second place when to Tim Lips and Lacoste Z (28.9) with Carvahlo Jorge finishing in third (29.5).
British rider Lauren McClusky finished in 10thwith the Spencer Golding and Home Farm Equestrian owned Carlchen.
It was a close contest in the CCI2*-S (formerly CIC*) with French rider Auriele Riedweg and Api Des Nous winning by just 0.1 penalty.
Second went to Dutch Rider Alice Naber-Lozeman and ACSI Peter Parker NOP (31.3) – the pair had led after the dressahe but collected 3.2 penalties on the cross country – with Brazilian rider Ruy Fonseca finishing third with Ballypatrick SRS (32.5). The highest placed British rider was Lauren McClusky riding Cassidy, finishing tenth on a score of 38.6.
This weekend riders will compete for honours in the second on Barroca’s spring international events with classes including CCI2*-L, CCI3*-L, CCI4*-S and CCI4*-L.
