David Gatherer wins Horsescotland Coach of the Year

David Gatherer has been named as Horsescotland Coach of the Year.

The award was presented for David’s supportive and understanding way of coaching. A BE Accredited Coach he provides tireless dedication to Training and Education in the Sottish region and also fits in working full time running his own small farm and competing in BE events.

David was nominated for his work with the BE Under 18 Programme by U18 Regional Coordinator for Scotland Rose Dudgeon. Rose commented; “David has been a BE Coach for many years and we are very lucky that he is also a long standing U18 coach here in Scotland. Throughout the year David does everything he can to help and support everyone he coaches, no matter what their level of experience and ambition. He genuinely wants to offer everyone, and their horses, the chance to improve and enjoy themselves; he gives them confidence and self-belief.

“From sleeping on self “deflating” mattresses in the back of a lorry at Weston Park for nights on end, to hours of freezing in fields and arenas, David is positive, fun and always a huge support to all of us. Despite all of his commitments David still finds time to coach, when energy runs low he is quickly re-energised with any home baking that is available! My role as an U18 Coordinator is made so much easier and more fun by David’s involvement, support and his legendary sense of humour! Thank you so much David and many congratulations from everyone for your richly deserved award.”
