British Eventing has announced the successful applicants of the 2017 BE Course Design Scholarship.
From all who applied, five candidates were short-listed and BE Accredited Coach and B List Course Designer Andrew Heffernan and Gold List Course Builder Guy Herbert have both been accepted onto the scholarship which will support them over the next two years.
The applicants were chosen following an interview with A List BE Course Designer Capt. Mark Phillips, BE President Jane Holderness-Roddam and BE Board Director and Chairman of the Sport Committee Les Smith.
The scholarship, which is made possible using funding from the Bill Thomson Bursaey, includes tailored guidance from experienced Course Design Mentors, exclusive access to training sessions and course walks along with the chance to assist with the design of BE courses under the support of a Course Design Mentor. It’s aim is to guide and support talented course designers, whatever level they are in course design, in order to give them the best possible chance to reach the top level of course design in the sport.
Les Smith said: “It was a very enlightening day, and I am sure all the candidates took a lot away from it,” all the panel thanked those who attended and for their input in the day.”
