With The Festival of British Eventing at Gatcombe Park just around the corner, the team are busy preparing an action packed weekend to ensure that the event’s 34th year will be better than ever.
2016 will be quite a year for The Festival with the return of the popular Advanced class as well as hosting the fourth leg of the Event Rider Masters, which will be incorporated in The British Open Championship.
The three days of competition (August 5-7) will see four Championship competitions taking place – The British Open Championship incorporating the Event Rider Masters, The Smith & Williamson British Intermediate Championship, The Dodson & Horrell British Novice Championship plus The TopSpec Challenge for The Corinthian Cup, a National Restricted Novice Championship.
As well as the thrilling eventing competition, The Festival hosts the Pony Club Inter-Branch Team show jumping, a selection of Retraining of Racehorses (ROR) showing classes, The Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse Series, a Dressage to Music display and the popular Shetland Pony Grand National and, this year the main arena will see the spectacular Devils Horsemen Cossacks performing.
Tim Henson, Event Director, commented: “Final preparations are going well and the competition is set to be fierce. The Festival is a wonderful event that provides an intimate setting in the rolling Cotswolds that is perfect for spectators to enjoy a fun filled day out. We look forward to welcoming everyone to The Festival this year for what should be a superb Olympic celebration.”
