This year’s Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials (3rd – 6th September) will not only welcome elite equestrian athletes this year. Land Rover, title sponsor of the Horse Trials and a Worldwide Partner of Rugby World Cup 2015 will be introducing another sporting great to the event.
On Friday 4th September, the Rugby World Cup 2015 Trophy Tour will be stopping at Burghley as part of its 100 day route around the UK. It will arrive in a custom made Land Rover Defender, driven by rugby legend Jason Robinson. Spectators are invited to take pictures and meet Jason in person.
There will also be an opportunity for children aged between 7-13 to audition for the chance to be a Rugby World Cup 2015 Mascot during Burghley. Land Rover is recruiting all 96 official mascot places for Rugby World Cup 2015, as part of its ‘We Deal In Real’ campaign, which puts grassroots rugby on the global stage. This is the last chance for youngsters to audition for the chance to walk out on to the pitch with one of the Rugby World Cup teams. Auditions take place at the Land Rover Experience Area on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Burghley.
Next to the Land Rover Experience Area, by the Lion Bridge, there will be a mini rugby pitch for youngsters who fancy testing out their skills. Coaching sessions will take place throughout Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Burghley and there may even be one or two rugby legends in the name of
Jason Robinson, Martin Corry and Will Greenwood on hand for some coaching tips…
Away from the rugby the Land Rover Tailgate Picnic Competition once again takes place at Burghley Horse Trials on Saturday 5th September and has become an annual ritual amongst Burghley picnickers. The competition for the ultimate alfresco spread takes place in Burghley’s reserved car park which is situated next to the lake with Burghley House in the backdrop. The judges this year will be Land Rover ambassadors Zara Phillips and 2003 Rugby World Cup hero Martin Corry who will take a tour of the dedicated picnic car park on Saturday afternoon before deciding who to crown the Land Rover Tailgate Picnic Champion 2015.
With the FEI European Eventing Championships taking place the week after Burghley, members of the Team GBR Eventing Squad will be in attendance at Burghley on Friday 4th September. This will be one of the last chances for media to speak with them ahead of the Championships.
Once again Burghley spectators can enjoy an off-road thrill, showcasing the all-terrain capabilities of the Land Rover product line up at the Land Rover Experience Area. While the adults are looking around the vehicles, children can try their hand at the remote control mini Defenders. One of the product highlights on display at Burghley this year is the Land Rover Defender 2,000,000 which will be on display at the Land Rover stand.

THURSDAY 3rd SEPTEMBER
Recent addition to the Land Rover equestrian ambassador line up, Harry Meade, will be in attendance, supporting the launch of Land Rover’ new pioneering towing technology.
FRIDAY 4th SEPTEMBER
The Rugby World Cup 2015 Trophy will arrive at Burghley (between 9:30-10am) in a custom made Land Rover Defender, driven by rugby legend Jason Robinson. It will arrive through the Bottle Lodge entrance in the morning, drive through the crowd in the trade stands and park up on lawn between the Scoreboard and Hospitality. Spectators are invited to take pictures and meet Jason in person. Jason will then take part in a coaching session on the mini rugby pitch with youngsters and also watch some of the mascot recruitments taking place.
Members of the Team GBR Eventing squad will be in attendance at Burghley on this day, ahead of competing at the European Championships at Blair Castle the following week.
SATURDAY 5th SEPTEMBER
Martin Corry will be taking part in a few of rugby skills sessions with youngsters at the mini rugby pitch by the Land Rover Experience Area. This will take place at 1130 and again at 1530.
Judging of the Land Rover Tailgate Picnic Competition will take place at approximately 1400 in Burghley’s reserved car park with Zara Phillips and Martin Corry.
SUNDAY 6th SEPTEMBER
Land Rover ambassadors Will Greenwood and Harry Meade will be in attendance. Harry will join Will for a rugby skill sessions on the mini rugby pitch straight at approximately 1400 and then afterwards Will will take part in a coaching session.
