Belton looks forward to a bumper year

With the Box Office open, the course taking shape, and applications for shopping space flooding in, Belton Horse Trials 2016 promises to be the best yet.

Thousands of visitors are expected to flock to the Lincolnshire event for the annual International Horse Trials and family day out, which takes place 15-17 April.

With Olympic Team selection at the forefront of rider’s minds, Belton is also looking forward to welcoming the world’s best horses and riders, many of whom will be out to impress team selectors as they vie for a chance to be chosen for the Olympic Games. The highlight will be the hotly contested Grantham Cup CIC*** with entries including Laura Collett, Bettina Hoy, Tina Cook, Jonty Evans, Kitty King, Bill Levett, Paul Tapner, Mark Todd, Francis Whittington and last year’s winner Clark Montgomery.

For added excitement, the CIC*** forms part of the Shearwater Insurance Tristar Grand Slam launched earlier this year. A £50,000, ‘winner-takes-all’ prize is on offer for any rider who can win three of the five CIC*** events held at Burnham Market International, Belton International, Houghton International, Hopetoun International and Burgham International.

Potential Olympic hopefuls are also entered in the Advanced including Tim and Jonelle Price and Blyth Tait. Other classes being held at Belton include CIC**, Advanced Under 25, Open Intermediate, Open Intermediate Under 21, Intermediate, Open Novice Under 18 and Novice.

As well as the international competition, the event includes a wide range of activities to keep the family entertained, including a classic car display, Inter-Hunt Relay, Stallion Parade, High Gate Jump competition, Dog Show and a 10km charity run, and it is not only the children who will enjoy the traditional family fun fair and the brand new Interactive Zone which will be on the park all weekend.

There will also be more than 100 trade stands. Belton’s reputation for offering a fantastic array of trade stands continues to grow with more applications than ever before. Attracting a huge collection of many well-known brands such as British clothing brand Joules and ‘new brand on the block’ Noble Outfitters, Belton offers everything from locally produced fayre to bespoke made saddles and much more in between.

“The Belton International Horse Trials has built a reputation as an event which has something to appeal to everyone whether from town or country.” said Alec Gordon, General Manager, National Trust, Lincolnshire.

Tickets and details of the three-day programme are available via the website at www.belton-horse.co.uk.
