Kate Negus Saddlery was yet another high end British retailer trading at Badminton Horse Trials. Their English leather bridles, girths, martingales and accessories are used by some of the most discerning riders across disciplines and it is easy to see why.
Speaking to their knowledgeable sales staff it is clear that the company has a passion for ensuring every item they sell fits well and is appropriate for the horse as much as the rider. It’s this wealth of expertise that sets them head and shoulders above the competition. They were even able to recommend bridle sizes for my filly and children’s pony just by looking at phone photos and were happy to offer suggestions if the fit wasn’t perfect. It’s this service that makes them more than an ‘off the peg’ manufacturer.
For anyone with an addiction to top end kit (there is help available!) but we also suggest checking out the Kate Negus stand next time you are at an event a full list of shows they will be attending is here. You can bring along a bridle that fits and find a new replacement. www.katenegus.com
Alternatively simply measure your bridle (they supply a guide on how to do this) and order online. For those needing extra help of something totally bespoke we would always recommend a call as they really know their stuff and are some of the most helpful retailers we know. Their passion is on getting things right for the customer and horse.
With a range stretching into dog collars and accessories Kate Negus is a must check out option for both pro and amateur riders.
The Tuffa Boots trade stand at Badminton was proving to be a popular destination for ladies and a fair share of male riders. It seemed they had made a beeline to fit and purchase their ever widening range of boots, gloves and chaps. A new development for Tuffa has been a ‘plus size’ boot for riders with larger calves.
Speaking to Michelle Girling, we found out that Tuffa Boots wanted to provide an option for ladies who struggled to find every day and competition riding boots. Our photographer, Lauren, supported this and has found it has been impossible to find correctly fitting, large calf boots that aren’t a fortune to buy.
Tuffa is clearly responding to this need and Michelle commented about how many women were specifically visiting to buy these boots. The Breckland (£199.99) is a sleek aniline black leather boot with a luxurious leather lining, incorporating an elastic panel at the back of the boot. The Broadland (£159.99) is manufactured from nubuck leather (black or brown) with a rubber riding sole so is a more casual style. Both boots can now fit up to a 21” calf, from size 3 to 12.
Tuffa Boots will be trading at Tasttersalls, Brahmam and Hopetoun Horse Trials. It is well worth checking out their great quality, yet affordable, riding and work boots.
At FMBs Therapy Systems the name of the game is innovation and useful therapy provision for the professional and amateur rider.
It was great to have the opportunity at Badminton to see their popular Activo Med rug in demonstration. Used by over 75% of top UK international riders the rug and detachable boots provides sequenced Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) and Massage Therapy to the horse from poll to tail and now also covers the shoulders and thigh areas. It really is worth checking out at Bramham (the next FMBs event) and talking to the knowledgeable sales staff about your requirements. FMBs is offering £200 off the full price of this rug if ordered before the end of May.
Another innovative FMBs product is the Equisox – an equine compression sock which offers a consistent and therapeutic level of leg compression. They are made from technologically advanced textiles that facilitate thermoregulation and conform to the anatomy of your horse’s leg. A great product for the summer months, when eventing on firmer ground and very easy to fit, priced at £75 per pair in black or white. You will never have to bandage again! Another Great British company exhibiting at Badminton was the bedding brand Aquamax.
A perfect opportunity to talk to their MD, Paul Groombridge and discover that as well as top grade, dust extracted bedding the company has now branched out into rubber matting supply. It was interesting to see both at first hand and really ‘feel’ the quality. Definitely worth checking out at Chatsworth, the next event that Aquamax will be visiting.

With a client list that reads like a ‘who’s who’ of eventing it is no wonder that Mirrors for Training continues to expand its business in the equine world.
The EWW team caught up with this popular brand at Badminton Horse Trials and were really impressed with the quality of the Mirrors for Training product and their installation experience. It makes sense why some of the top yards across the country have opted for Mirrors for Training mirrors.

HiHo Silver once again showed why they are one of the most popular country and equestrian jewellers on the circuit. Their beautifully merchandised stand at Badminton was as ever very popular but the EWW team also discovered a new branch to their business.
Cult homewares brand, Doris & Co, has recently been acquired by the company behind Hiho Silver, and will now be based in the Blackdown Hills of Somerset.
“Doris’s practical, no nonsense approach and quality of product are very much the qualities that we espouse, and we hope that our customers will fall in love with Doris too. The country values of both brands are a very good fit.” Said Emma Warren form HiHo Silver.
Doris & Co products are made in the UK with unique designs that really make them stand out. The brand has recently had a number of Royal Acorn mugs made to celebrate the birth of Princess Charlotte, with the original design created for the birth of Prince George. Other items in the range, in addition to the Royal Acorns mug, are available on the website
