BADMINTON BUILD UP… 5 Minutes with The British Horse Society

The British Horse Society (BHS) is the Charity of the Year at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials 2018. Head of Fundraising, Tracey Casstles, talks about their work as a charity, their presence at Badminton and some exciting competitions involving their President, Martin Clunes.

On being the chosen charity

“We’re absolutely thrilled. When the event very first started the BHS was a beneficiary of it. So we real  history with the event and could not be more pleased to be part of it. I’m hoping we’ll be able to raise vital funds for the work we do in the horse industry.

About the work of the charity

“We have a saying ‘I didn’t know the BHS did that’ and I hope that by being at Badminton people can get a real sense of the breadth of work we do. We keep bridleways open for people to ride on, we make sure that they are safe and people can have that access route to ride off road. We also have a campaign call Dead or Dead Slow, and we have worked with Government and many different organisations to try and make roads safer for riders on the road. We have a huge welfare department and we are very much the first port of call so we try and stop cases getting to the point where they need to be rescued. And probably what we are most famous for is our education system which really is the envy of many countries around the world. There are over a thousand volunteers with the BHS of which we are incredibly proud; they work tirelessly.

Plans for Badminton 2018….

We’ve got some really exciting things for people to take part in. We have four areas when you can test your knowledge, challenge what you think you know. We have a new member of the BHS who we will be unveiling on the Wednesday. We have phenomenal silent auction where can bid for some really great prizes which will help support our work and you can have a really fabulous experience.

On Martin Clunes involvement….

As our president Martin comes to endless activities we do. He’ll be at Badminton and hopefully you’ll see something very interesting in the main arena with him.
