The BE Arena Eventing series sees a new format which is being piloted in 2017 with ten qualifying competitions throughout January and February, where eligible riders can go forward to contest in the BE Arena Eventing Championships, supported by Treehouse Sporting Colours, in early March.
Open to both BE members and non-members and run at BE80, BE90 and BE100 level, competitors first complete a round of show jumps immediately followed by the cross country elements in an arena, finishing over a joker fence set at 10cms higher than the rest of the course.
Wellington Arena Eventing held on the 29th January 2017 saw more than 120 competitors take part, with the AE90 section being the most popular with 55 competitors.
Annabel Walsh took victory with Persian Marvel at her first British Eventing competition in AE80 Section 1. Olivia Cohen took second with A Regular Choice, with Lauren Wheeler coming third with Coolin Magpie. In the second AE80 section, the win went to Deborah Burrell and Silver Nemesis. Claire Lewis and Perriland Leonardo took second with Shannon Kirby and Rhodelia Rose taking third.
In the large AE90 class, Mimo Sandford and The Earl of Guinness were victorious, with the pair then going on to collect a fifth placing in the AE100 class. Second went to Imogen Webber riding Byrneskill Ruby with Olivia Mitchell with Woodland Lad taking third.
The AE100 class was won by Abigail Cottingham riding Molly Chestnut. Having come fifth in the AE90, Eleanor Sparkes and Marno came second with Becky Storer piloting Casino Royale One to third.
