Friday morning’s dressage kicked off with two individual British riders – Izzy Taylor and Oliver
Townend, and another personal best score in the British camp.
Riding KBIS Briarlands Matilda, Izzy put in a solid performance to score 44.00. After her test she said: “I’m very pleased with her. She was a good girl and kept a lid on it – I just would have liked to have been a bit closer to the leaders.”
Oliver Townend is still building a partnership with his horse, Fenyas Elegance, having only taken on the ride earlier this year. But they put in a personal best performance to score 38.7, putting them into the top ten so far.
He said: “For me she is a new ride and she has a bit of a tricky past record. We’re absolutely thrilled with the way she has performed in that phase. There is still room for improvement but she’s never been in the 30s before and with that we’ll be thrilled.”
In the second of the morning dressage sessions, Pippa Funnell, part of the British Team, will be second to go with Sandman 7 (11.57). She will be followed soon after by German team rider Sandra Auffarth and Opgun Louvo (12.13). The third of the French riders will be Thomas Carlile and Sirocco du Gers (12.29). Sarah Algotsson Osholt will go for the Swedish team with Reality 39 (12.37).
In the standings so far, the British camp has six riders in the top ten. Holly Woodhead leads the field with Nicola Wilson in third. Kitty King is in fifth, Laura Collett is in sixth, Sarah Bullimore in seventh and Oliver Townend sits in eighth.
