Houghton International Horse Trials has always been one of my favourite events and I have been going there every year since they held their first event in 2006.
I took Cool Investment, aka Monkey, for the CIC***, which was also the Nations Cup class and very competitive, as his last prep run before Luhmühlen.
I was really pleased with his dressage and he had a personal best score of 35.8 which was an improvement of ten marks from his last dressage.
In the show jumping he jumped very well, but unfortunately he rolled two poles which was a bit disappointing. But he made up for it with a lovely clear round on the cross country, just picking up four time faults – only a handful of riders came home inside the time. This gave us a final score of 47.8 and in the middle of the table so all in all a great result.
Overall I was delighted with Monkeys performance at Houghton. It was just the kind of run we needed before a big event. I now feel very confident heading to Luhmühlen with his Houghton performance under our belt. It will be his first four star competition so I have everything crossed we go well there.
