This weekend, 23rd-25th of October, the Equi-Trek Aldon 2 International Eventing set in Aldon Park and the Yeovil Showground will host a showcase of well known international riders and horses, including past Badminton winners and team medallists.
Great Britain team medallists bringing horses include former European Champion Zara Phillips, Individual Bronze Medallist Tina Cook, David Doel who won Bronze as a past member of a Young Rider Team and Emily Llewellyn. The international flavour is completed with competitors from 11 nations. Former Badminton and Aldon winner Sam Griffiths (AUS) is returning with 4 horses and popular visitor Vittoria Panizzon (ITA) has 5 rides. Americans, Clark Montgomery, who won this years Blenheim, and Tiana Coudray ,who was in their Olympic Team and just won the 5yo Young Horse Section at Burghley, have entries on Friday.
Over the three days of competition 20 sections will be decided. New to Aldon this year is a higher level international CIC** in addition to the International CCI * and the noteworthy 3 Day long format sections which will conclude with the Show Jumping and a mounted prize giving on Sunday afternoon.
The naturally spectator friendly bowl of Aldon Park, with the fences laid out ahead in the valley, and the water complex as the central feature offers excellent viewing of the Cross Country. The Show Jumping and Trade Stands are on the flatter showground side with the Dressage below the Rugby Club. Coming at the end of the Eventing Season there is always a buzz of excitement for competitors and spectators alike on the last day of term.
Entry is via the A37 to the South of Yeovil, £10 for cars which includes a free programme and free for pedestrians. Proceeds go towards St Margaret’s Hospice, the RNLI and other local, chosen charities.
