Timmy Orrit reports
Last weekend saw Great Witchingham’s second international event of the year, with classes running from BE80(T) all the way up to Intermediate, incorporating open sections, a 2DE and a CCI-S2*.
Izzy Taylor had a very successful few days, claiming 1st and 3rd places in the OI class riding Artful Trinity to the win, and Monkeying Around to 3rd. Both horses were 2 out of 3 to finish on their dressage score, the third combination being Heidi Coy and Carrigsean Tigerseye, who finished 7th.
The best dressage in the section went to Piggy French and Calling Card who had a score of 23.6. The pair dropped to 2nd place after adding 4 cross country time penalties to their dressage. Piggy also piloted Sportsfield Top Notch to 6th place, and Brookfield Quality to 8th, both in the OI. In the ON, Piggy took the win with Brookfield Innocent when the combination added just 1.6 time faults to their dressage of 24.3.
Izzy Taylor took the win in Intermediate section F when she piloted Newmarket Glider to a 25.2 dressage followed by a double clear, and were the only combination to finish on their dressage score. She also finished 2nd in Intermediate section E riding Hartaker. They followed their 30.7 dressage with an unfortunate pole showjumping and 2.8 time penalties cross country, however received the fewest time faults in the section. The win in section E went to Willa Newton and Cock A Doodle Doo who led from start to finish following their best dressage of 27.5 with 8 time faults cross country to maintain their lead throughout.
Emma Hyslop-Webb took 3rd with Ducatti, after they added 10.4 time penalties to their dressage of 29.8.
Second place in section F went to Brook Staples and Ardagh Breeze who finished on 34.9 after they completed the cross country with 9.2 time faults to add to their dressage of 25.7, and 3rd went to Gemma Gurvidi and Dali III who completed on a total score of 35.7.
Zoe Rymer and JSR Crazy Mazy led the CCI-S2* from beginning to end when they added nothing to their best dressage of 30.2 to maintain their lead and win the section. Caroline Powell took 2nd spot riding Shannondale Inca after a dressage of 31.6 followed by a double clear, as well as 7th place with Greenacre Special Cavalier. 3rd went to Lucinda Atkinson and PRF Jaguar Elite. Lucinda also claimed 3rd in the 5YO section riding Millrose, when they completed a double clear to finish on their original dressage score of 32. Imogen Murray took second out of the 5YOs riding Jezebel HDH after adding just 0.4 time faults to their dressage of 31.3 to completed on a total of 31.7, and the win in the 5YO section went to Laurence Hunt and Corlanau Armani who followed their 30.3 dressage with a double clear.
Gt Witchingham also ran a 2DBE100 over the weekend, which was a direct qualifier for the Mitsubishi Motors Cup 2020, held at Badminton. Eligible combinations placed in the top 20% qualified for the MMC 2020, so as their were 20 starters, 1st and 2nd place qualified.
These places went to Michelle Lowe and Vivendi Noble Cavalier, who led from start to finish after adding just 0.8time pens to their best dressage of 28 to finish in 1st on a score of 28.8, and
to Catherine Sadler riding Royale Messenger who followed their 30.1 dressage with a lovely double clear to come 2nd.
This was Gt Witchingham’s second and final event of the year, so we look forward to seeing you all again next season, and a massive well done to everyone else who competed over the weekend.
